“Oh, joy. Mandatory overtime.
So much for this week’s Cardio Fusion class.”

Oops. Sorry, Gary. We owe you a T-shirt at least.

For purposes of this contest, we aren’t actually interested in the talent of the band.

What we’re interested in are the names of the bands. Which one is the coolest? Most original? Funniest? Your favorite?

So here’s the schedule:

  • Monday: Tournament voting for the first 16 names. Ends at midnight!
  • Tuesday: We’ll have Monday’s results and open voting for the 8 remaining names. Ends at midnight!
  • Wednesday: Show Tuesday’s results and open voting for the 4 remaining names. Ends at midnight.
  • Thursday: Show Wednesday’s results and open voting for the final 2 remaining names. Ends at midnight.

And, drum roll, please:

Friday: The Big Reveal! The The Coolest Unsung Band Name Ever!

You can choose for each matchup once a day.

And we’ve provided these adorable mini-factoids about each group for your reding pleasure, while you click and vote.

And this is fun: we’re opening up the voting to non-registered viewers at the site.

We’re lookin’ at you, Sitelurkerguy2003. Enjoy.

But because we would love to hear your comments about the contest, please consider registering:

OK, on with the contest:

I don’t remember Bastard Sons Of Johnny Cash being nominated, though I’m sure it was, but boy, I like it!

That was indeed my suggestion. I’ll admit I’ve never heard a single note by them and I have no idea where I came across the name but once heard never forgotten.

Aside from Various Artists, who I knew from some “easily confusable band names” list, the one I’ve heard of from here is Nerf Herder, who did the instrumental theme to Buffy.

Here’s a page you all might love – among other things, there’s an American punk band named Rolling Stones

I remember that! They played at CBGB the week before my band. I heard a few people showed just in case it was the real Stones.

Nerfherder was a fairly well known band in the 90s/00s. I voted for it anyway.
I absolutely love this song by them.

Nerf Herder asked Sammy Hagar to appear in the music video. He declined. Hagar doesn’t have a sense of humor. That’s why I like Michael Bolton. Bolton acknowledges, and is okay with the fact that some people don’t like his music.

I think it’s probably better that Hagar wasn’t in it. It could have taken away from the nerdy outsider feel that makes me love it so much.
