Penultimate pre-launch post

Hey, I wish that was a snappier title, too. But the people are demanding an update, so I’m doing that thing where you type before you write. Quick. Run. Save yourselves.

Let’s see if I remember how to code a bullet list:

  • Comments: These should be now singing and dancing well on desktop and tablet. I fixed a minor bug on mobile so that should be looking good, too. All of you good folks have the ability to edit, delete, follow each other, easily apply italics and other nuances, and even post images and links on the fly. As the admin, I’m limited on some of the “real-world” testing, so please give any or all of the above a try, and well see how it looks. A few more features to come; but please let me know what bells and whistles you’d all like to see!
  • Going Dark: It will be necessary to go to maintenance mode, probably on Sunday. I’ll post a final pre-launch thingy here, probably on Saturday. If you’re all not busy changing the fish tank water or whatever, stop by and leave a comment. When we do go all dark and mysterious, I promise to leave a spiffy graphic up, just for fun.
  • Promotion: I had a nice talk last night with Scott over at SG. The bottom line is that I have his blessing and encouragement to mention tnocs.com over at the Number Ones. That’s pretty generous, and one of the first orders of business post-launch will be to talk about my gratitude for that. I really want this place to succeed and become a great community, just as the original TNOCS evolved. That said, I don’t want to abuse the kindness. So I’ll be measured in my mentions. If any of you would like to talk up or mention the link to the new site over at TNOCS, on socials, or at your next quilting party, I’d be grateful.
  • Content: We have some great stuff from some of your favorite TNOCS writers in the can – but in this case, “more is better.” If you want to send something over to share as a featured article, or just want to chat about it, I’ll thank you big-time in advance. We don’t have a daily Tom, so an anchor article, a running bit, review, or even an ongoing series by any of you good souls will go a long way to making the new place a vibrant and fun place to hang. Please hit me up at: submissions@tnocs.com

Ok. Back to coding. I promise to make this all worth your collective while. (Um, should that be “whiles?” Great. I need an editor already.)

You’re all just the best. Good on you all.

I am so excited for this new site. I may or may not have (read that as definitely have) completely worn out my friends and family with mentions of our current community. Will be doing the same with this one. Who knows? Some of them may find it less intimidating to join a new venture than one with the huge backstory of our first home.

Should we hold off talking about tnocs.com over at TNOCS until after the launch?

Super stoked!!!

My advice mt58… there’s a burst of enthusiasm with the new site, but keep in mind we will have about two years of dividing our attention between this brave new site and our old ‘Gum hang. Maybe start with new content one day a week, move to two days a week if you get a lot of interest AND people who are writing something like a column with regularity.

We want to keep the momentum up for 2+ years before this becomes our permanent home (like the San Jacinto episode of Black Mirror).

(Ok, maybe a bad analogy…)

My point is, and I’m sure you’ve already thought about this, is we don’t want to burn white hot then fizzle. Or maybe I’m way off base here…
